Hi! I’m Alyssa Gamlin, MA in progress
She | Her | Hers
I’m earning a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and expect to be completed in 2025. I am currently working towards my license in Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) under the supervision of Dr. Bailey Dirth, PsyD, LP.
Previously, I have worked with adults of all ages living with disabilities and taught classes as a refugee resettlement educator in conjunction with my undergraduate work studying psychology and community health.
My favorite part of this work
My favorite part of this work is developing meaningful relationships with my clients. I believe in creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts and behaviors without the pressure to have all the answers. My therapeutic approach is characterized by trust and vulnerability while integrating a sense of humor and authenticity.
Through collaborative engagement, I work to provide practical tools that allow my clients to move forward in life while digging deeper to understand the source of their concerns. As a therapist, I strive to empower my clients to find purpose and fulfillment as they continue to grow in alignment with their authentic selves.
Speaking of my clients
In particular, I specialize in working with individuals, who:
Are adults navigating emotional distress, interpersonal trauma, and the challenges of living with disabilities or chronic illness conditions.
Are teens who are struggling with emotional regulation, self-criticism, or excessive worry.
Are caregivers for individuals living with ongoing health concerns.
I have a special interest in:
Anxiety and depression.
Interpersonal trauma.
Spiritual and religious experiences.
Mental health conditions associated with disabilities and chronic illnesses.
I am passionate about:
Empowering clients to participate in self-discovery and personal growth.
Working with individuals of diverse backgrounds, especially immigrant and refugee populations.
Holistic care that acknowledges the social, emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual capacity of the client.
Destigmatizing mental health treatment while advocating for equal access to care for all individuals.
On Personal Note
My experiences with mental health support, chronic illness, and disability have shaped my approach to understanding those walking through unique circumstances. I am passionate about normalizing mental health treatment and providing high-quality care to individuals navigating the complexities of health conditions and various levels of personal ability.
Outside of work, I am a Minnesota native who has a deep love of family and stories. I enjoy making memories with my husband and children, sitting down with a good book, or listening to one of my favorite storytellers spin a tale on a podcast. In my free time, you can find me making plans for future road trips, going for a run, and trying to keep my houseplants alive.
