THE FIRST SESSION: Intake Appointment
After all the paperwork is completed and you are registered for services (yay!), you and your clinician will meet for the first time for an intake appointment. The purpose of this first meeting is to get to know each other, as well as for our clinicians to gather information about your current concerns, history, and goals for treatment. At the end, you and your clinician will briefly decide about the plan moving forward and you will receive a wellness/treatment plan to review prior to your first or second therapy session.
Ongoing Individual & Family Therapy Services
While we work together, treatment will be culturally responsive, thoughtful, and individualized to your needs, preferences, and goals. Typically, you will be meeting with your clinician once per week, particularly in beginning phases of treatment. Each session will start off with a check-in about time since the previous session and end with setting an intention and/or plan for the time until the next session. Your clinician will offer you space to hold and process your feelings, thoughts, and needs.
With your clinician, you will explore past and current experiences that may be currently impacting you, as well as help you recognize your strengths and gain a sense of deeper understanding, awareness, acceptance, and self-compassion. You and your clinician will also work together to help you gain and practice strategies, skills, and make a plan for other doable steps you can take. Family members will collaborate in treatment as deemed helpful (given appropriate permission), however, it is important to note that it is fairly standard for parents to be regularly involved in treatment with their children and adolescents. Games, play, and art is also frequently incorporated into treatment with children and adolescents.
Finally, you and your clinician will collaborate in reviewing your wellness/treatment plan and goals every quarter to monitor and celebrate progress being made, as well as make any adjustments in treatment and goals that are needed.
Ideally, you and your clinician will have a final session in order to celebrate our journey together, as well as celebrate the successes you have achieved! We will also do our best to provide you with any referrals and/or resources you may need at that time. We will also discuss how to recognize when you may need to re-initiate services in the future, as well as ways to do so.
Psychological Evaluation Services
Due to constraints related to currently utilizing telehealth services and the nature of psychological evaluation services, We are not currently providing psychological evaluation services within this practice. We do have a network of trusted colleagues for which we can provide referrals for in the case that we determine that these services would be beneficial for you.
