On Personal Note
I am a first-generation immigrant from Japan. Japanese culture has a big influence on my therapeutic approach. To give you an idea, traditional Japanese boro textiles resemble my understanding of life. Boro textile originated in rural Japan from 1850-1950 to reuse scraps of old clothing to make new clothing. As you mend the boro fabric together, what was once worn and tattered becomes beautiful and strong. As we experience challenges in life, we mend and integrate those experiences into ourselves. I believe challenges strengthen and add layers to our life experience that is unique to each of us. In today’s world, the beauty of imperfection and impermanence is reflected and celebrated in the process of natural fabric wear and restoration in boro textile.
Outside of work, I enjoy going on walks, having coffee anytime of the day, spending time with my cats and bunny, and connecting with family and friends here and afar.
