Hi! I’m Arisa Lyseng, MA, LPCC

She | Her | Hers

I earned a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Adler Graduate School in 2019. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).

Previously, I have provided mental health therapy for children, adolescents, and adults in both outpatient clinics and in-home settings.

My favorite part of this work

My favorite part of this work is that I am able to offer the space where people are able to be vulnerable and share emotions. I have the opportunity to connect with people on a deeper level, which is very meaningful for me. Another favorite is that I also get to immerse myself in the field, where I have met other very compassionate and empathetic people! I am very happy to be able to feel safe and connected in this community where we continue to support each other as we do our very important work!

I am passionate about:

  • Increasing access to mental health care, especially in the Japanese community and communities of color.

  • Questioning what is considered “normal” to reduce stigma and shame

  • Providing a gentle and supportive approach in my work.

  • Exploring self-care for each individual’s diverse needs and being accountable for my own self-care.

I am able to offer the space where people are able to be vulnerable and share emotions.

On Personal Note

I am a first-generation immigrant from Japan. Japanese culture has a big influence on my therapeutic approach. To give you an idea, traditional Japanese boro textiles resemble my understanding of life. Boro textile originated in rural Japan from 1850-1950 to reuse scraps of old clothing to make new clothing. As you mend the boro fabric together, what was once worn and tattered becomes beautiful and strong. As we experience challenges in life, we mend and integrate those experiences into ourselves. I believe challenges strengthen and add layers to our life experience that is unique to each of us. In today’s world, the beauty of imperfection and impermanence is reflected and celebrated in the process of natural fabric wear and restoration in boro textile.

Outside of work, I enjoy going on walks, having coffee anytime of the day, spending time with my cats and bunny, and connecting with family and friends here and afar.
