Hi! I’m Han Phung, MA
She | Her | Hers
I earned a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology (Clinical Mental Health) from the University of Minnesota in 2023. I am currently working towards my license in Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) under the supervision of Dr. Tina D. Shah, PsyD, LP.
Previously, I worked with adults of all ages and college students in individual therapy, as well as in career counseling.
My favorite part of this work
My favorite part of this work is developing strong relationships with my clients. I believe having a trusting and authentic therapeutic relationship is necessary to meet a client’s goals. I enjoy creating a nonjudgmental and collaborative space, allowing clients to share their personal stories and experiences.
Building strong relationships with clients allows me to encourage clients to discover their strengths to feel empowered, find solutions to take action, and build awareness and insight into their thoughts and feelings in order to promote change.
Speaking of my clients
In particular, I specialize in working with individuals, who:
Are experiencing concerns related to anxiety and/or depression
Are experiencing low self-esteem and low self-compassion
Are experiencing everyday stress such as work stressors or academic stressors
Are experiencing life transitions
Want to explore, navigate, and/or develop their identities, such as ethnic or religious identities
College students or graduate students
International college students
Are experiencing shame/guilt
I have a special interest in:
Individuals who hold marginalized identities, such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and people with disabilities.
Individuals who are immigrants or who come from an immigrant family
Individuals in interracial romantic relationships
Individuals who have experienced intergenerational trauma and/or religious trauma
Individuals who are deconstructing their faith or questioning their faith
Individuals who want to explore or change their career path.
I am passionate about:
Life-long learning, which includes being committed to cultural humility and being open to questioning my own biases and beliefs.
Empowering clients because I believe everyone has the power to change their lives to some capacity in order to find fulfillment, healing, and acceptance.
On Personal Note
I am a first-generation Vietnamese American who grew up in Saint Paul, MN. My cultural identity informs my work as a therapist as I believe our environment and culture largely influence the way we understand the world.
Outside of therapy, I enjoy playing tennis, cooking new recipes, and baking sweet treats. I also love to travel, especially when I am able to try new foods and spend time by the water.
